Baglama Player

He was born in Istanbul in 1982. His interest in music, which began in early childhood, became professional when he was accepted in 2000 into the Music Ensembles Program, Bağlama Division of the Faculty of Art and Design at Yıldız Technical University. In his bağlama studies, he was influenced by great masters of Anatolian music such as Talip Özkan, Feyzullah Çınar, Hacı Taşan, Çekiç Ali, Sadettin and Hüseyin Doğan, and Neşet Ertaş. He had the opportunity to study directly with notable artists and educators including Mehmet Erenler, Prof. Erol Parlak, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Okan Murat Öztürk, Doğan Zentur, Metin Öge, Mehmet Kayık, Ferhad Shidfar, and Zeki Atagür. Between 2003 and 2005, he worked as a trainee artist in the Turkish Folk Music Performance Ensemble of Istanbul University State Conservatory under the direction of Adnan Ataman. He successfully completed his undergraduate studies in 2006. In 2007, he began his master's degree in the Department of Turkish Music at Istanbul Technical University’s Institute of Social Sciences. He completed his degree in 2009 with a thesis titled: “Musical Analysis of the Long Songs of the Barak Dialect of Turkmens in the Gaziantep Region.” He began giving solo concerts in Turkey during his graduate studies and appeared in numerous television programs as a guest and performer. His discography includes the following albums: Dâmen / Gönül Sevdiğinden Usandı (2011) Kışlar Lâl Oldu (2016) Bir Güzelden Yadigârdır Bu Sevda (2018) Reviş (2021) as well as singles: Nasip Olur and Kapına Geldim. He currently serves as a bağlama artist in the İstanbul Sufi Ceremonies Ensemble, under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey, General Directorate of Fine Arts. Alongside his artistic and academic work on traditional bağlama performance techniques and styles, he continues his solo concert performances and teaches as a lecturer at the Faculty of Art and Design, Yıldız Technical University.
