Selçuk Murat Kızılateş was born in 1972 in Erzurum, Turkey. He graduated from Karadeniz Technical University in 1996 with a degree in Geophysical Engineering. He began his professional music career during his university years by composing music for theatre. In 2000, he joined TRT Ankara Radio as an instrumentalist. Since then, he has participated in countless TRT radio and television productions as an arranger, music director, consultant, and performer. In 2006, he became affiliated with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey. He has served as conductor, arranger, music and art director in many album, TV, and concert projects. He also conducted the Istanbul State Turkish Folk Music Choir. Currently, he continues his work with the Istanbul Sufi Ceremonies Ensemble (İstanbul Meydan Meşkleri Topluluğu).
