
Yasin Özçimi
Ney Player
Yasin Özçimi was born in 1987 in Konya, Türkiye. He completed his primary education in Istanbul and his secondary and high school education in Konya. In 2005, he was admitted to the Turkish Music Conservatory at Haliç University, graduating in 2009. During his studies, he was trained under distinguished masters such as Prof. Dr. Alâeddin Yavaşça, Prof. Erol Deran, and Prof. Mutlu Torun. Having been introduced to Mevlevi culture at a young age, he received formal sema training from Semazen Abdurrahman Abukan. He began playing the ney under the influence of his father, Neyzen M. Sadrettin Özçimi, a prominent artist with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and a representative of the Neyzen Niyazi Sayın school. He later studied with Neyzen Ahmet Şahin and developed his ney performance style through both local and international concerts and Mevlevi rituals. From 2015 to 2019, he served as a neyzen in the Istanbul State Turkish Music Ensemble, founded by Tanburi Necdet Yaşar and conducted by Yurdal Tokcan. Since 2019, he has been a neyzen with the Istanbul State Turkish Music Research and Practice Ensemble, under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. He earned his master’s degree from Haliç University in 2019. Between 2016 and 2019, he taught as a lecturer at Medipol University’s Faculty of Arts and Design. He currently gives ney lessons at ISMEK’s Hasanpaşa Music Specialization Center and at Özçimi Art Studio. Throughout his career, he has performed with numerous master musicians from the tradition of Neyzen Niyazi Sayın, including Sadrettin Özçimi, Özer Özel, Prof. Erol Deran, Prof. Mutlu Torun, Ahmet Şahin, Salih Bilgin, Dr. Murat Salim Tokaç, Derya Türkan, Yurdal Tokcan, Göksel Baktagir, and Necati Çelik. Yasin Özçimi has represented Türkiye in various festivals and ceremonies across France, Japan, Switzerland, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan. He has performed in live broadcasts on national media outlets such as TRT, TRT AVAZ, and TVBuU. His work includes participation in many recordings and albums such as Tevhid Ehlinin Sadası, Gelenekten Geleceğe, Meşk Zamanı, Sırdask, The Secret Ensemble, Ermeni Bestekârlar, and 40 Ney 1 Nefes.
